First Among Hotels in Sebring Florida for “Twelve Hours of Sebring” Racing Fans - Inn On The Lakes

March can be a difficult time to book hotels in Sebring. Florida in general and Central Florida specifically are overwhelmed each year as the “Twelve Hours of Sebring” race draws near. Over 170,000 rabid race fans and a worldwide television audience join together each March for one of auto racing’s premier events.

Sebring is the initial stop for the American Le Mans Series and is the primary test for teams that will compete later in the summer at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. The course is a challenging 3.7 mile, 17-turn track located in this peaceful golfing mecca in the heartland of Florida.

"Sebring is something that in sports car circles is mentioned in the same way as Indianapolis is Indy cars or Monaco is in Formula One. It's a big deal to win this race," said Marino Franchitti, the younger brother of Indy 500 champion Dario Franchitti.

Sebring is the oldest road course in North America and the race is now in its 58th year. Audi has owned Sebring lately, winning each of the last eight years and nine of the eleven times they been entered. While only half as long as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this race can be harder on both car and driver due to the bumpy nature of the track.

Some of the many entertainers who have driven at Sebring include Steve McQueen, Gene Hackman, Paul Newman, Craig T. Nelson, Patrick Dempsey and James Brolin. Of course, all of racing’s legends have driven here: A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney, Sterling Moss and many more.

Since the town is relatively small for such a renowned event, the crowds overwhelm the hotels in Sebring. Florida is pretty well packed anyway this time of year with the annual “Spring Break” migration in full swing. Inn on the Lakes has always been a big supporter of the race and is one of the favorite destinations for those who are familiar with Sebring. It’s best to make your reservations well in advance. Of the hotels in Sebring, Florida, Inn on the Lakes is one of the fan’s favorites.
